Services for Children -
Psychiatric and Residential Care
Psychiatric and Medication Clinic
This clinic provides individualized assessment and treatment by a psychiatrist. This is a medical doctor who has specialized training in treating mental illness and children with serious emotional and cognitive disorders.
Medication may be prescribed by the doctor and is monitored on a regular
basis (weekly, monthly or as necessary) by a team of health care professionals. This service requires active participation by the family and child in taking the medication as prescribed and keeping appointments.
Hospitalization
This service treats a child or adolescent with mental illness or a serious emotional or cognitive disability who requires care in a 24 hour medically supervised facility. This service is used as a last resort when:
- The child is displaying symptoms of a serious psychiatric disorder
- The child is demonstrating they are at great risk to themselves or others
Crisis Residential
This program offers a short-term alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization for children experiencing an acute crisis. These services may avert an inpatient stay or shorten the length of inpatient hospitalization.
Specialized Residential
These services in a multi-bed facility can offer the child specialized treatment. The stay is typically longer than inpatient hospitalization.
Treatment Foster Care
This program provides for placement in a home-like setting with foster parents who have received specialized training and supports. The goal of this service is to return the child to their natural home.
