Reminders & recommendations

Medication Recertification Classes are offered once a month and they are for persons who need medication review or recertification.

The Health & Medication # 2 Class should be for new employees or someone needing to repeat the class because of too many medication errors.

Beeper’s and cell phones need to been turn off or put on vibrate while in class.

TOO LATE?  It is up to the trainers discretion on whether you have missed too much material to be allowed in the class.  Usually 15 minutes late is TOO LATE.

Most classes last their full scheduled time period.  If the class is small there is the possibility of finishing early but this should never be relied on.

Kalamazoo CMH& Substance Abuse Services Policy:

If your agency/home has a contract with KCMH&SAS and/or takes care of any of our clients, your agency/home must meet all training requirements.

Department of Consumer & Industry Services and 1987 DMH Administrative rules for staffing levels and qualifications required for Specialized Residential – “ALL STAFF SHALL COMPLETE BASIC GROUP HOME TRAINING INCLUDING ALL OF THE FOLLOWING”……. To meet their requirements you would need to attend our following classes: Mandt Basic & Intermediate, Health & Medications Days # 1 & # 2, Working With People, Role of Direct Care Staff, Emergency Prep, Nutrition, Adult CPR, First Aid, Prevent Disease Transmission (Bloodborne Pathogens), Person Centered Planning Basic, and Multiculturalism At Work.

An employee must have Recipient Rights within the first 30 days of employment.  If a person took Recipient Rights prior to April 1, 1996, they must retake Recipient Rights.

WALK-INS: May be turned away if they have not already been pre-registered, or taking the place of someone who couldn’t come. The agency needs to notify the Training Center Training Coordinator of this switch before class starts.

Trainees should arrive 10 minutes early so classes can start promptly.

Dress casually: Several of our classes (CPR - Adult and Child & Infant, First Aid, Mandt Basic and Mandt Intermediate) individuals are performing exercises and skill checks on the floor.  Slacks/jeans are more suitable than shorts as you will be on your knees on the carpet.  No flip flops allowed when taking Mandt Class, need regular shoes.

Sleeping in class is not acceptable and may result in trainee being asked to leave and reschedule, or failure of class.  Please make sure trainee has a full night’s rest before sending them to class.

Weekend Training’s: The building is under lockdown on the weekends.  So you need to arrive early for 9 o’clock training.  The trainer will be inside building although the building will be locked.  He will let people in at 9 a.m., lock down building, get those people to the training room and return about 9:10 to let in any late arrivals.  The building will then be locked again.

If sending trainees to evening classes, please consider safety issues and recommend they come and leave in-groups.  Parking is available in the back of the building for evening and weekend classes.  The training unit cannot be held responsible for damaged, lost or stolen articles.  Please encourage trainees to lock all car doors and conceal items of value.

We try very hard to avoid cancellation of classes, but weather conditions, trainer illness, or power failure can influence if a class proceeds or not.  We appreciate your understanding.  If not enough people actually show up for a class that requires at least a certain number of trainees to teach the class (i.e., Mandt Intermediate you need 3 people), the trainer may choose to cancel and reschedule that person(s).

PRE-REQUISITES:

You must have a current (original – photocopy not acceptable) Adult CPR card in order to take Child & Infant CPR.

PASSING MEDS: Before a person is qualified to pass medications they must have attended and passed Recipient Rights, Health & Medications #1 & #2 class.

It is recommended to send trainees to the Health & Medications #1 before #2 although it is not a pre-requisite.

In order not to be charged for a No-Show, you must give the Training Center notification of the change 3 days prior to the day of the class. Preferably this can be done by fax or e-mail. Leave a phone message if you do not have either of these capabilities.

Addenda!

PCP level one is PCP Basic or just PCP (I had put it was Multiculturalism@ work - sorry for the confusion). Multiculturalism@work is the CD or Cultural Diversity Basic training that needs to be taken first before taking a CD Option.
